The deed is done

I have had two dead televisions at my house for years and have intended to get rid of them but never got the job done.  Well today was the day.  My city had an electronic recycling day today.  They will take almost anything from computer monitors to televisions.  Everyone who could help me accomplish this task was busy this morning so once again, I did it myself.  I really really hate asking anyone to help because everyone has their own stuff to do and it may not be convenient for them to do it when I need it done.  A couple of people could help yesterday or tomorrow but not today.  I know they really want to help and I think that it makes them feel badly when they say they are not available.  So I usually figure out how to get it done.

Since both were dead I rolled them end-to-end out to the car then lifted them in.  No big deal.  Now it is done and I won't think on it again.

Bought myself a new toy yesterday.  I always want unusual things like tools or drills.  Undoubtedly not girly things at all.  Well the toy of desire this time was a Little Giant Ladder.  The ladder I have been using is an aluminum ladder that is not really very save.  People have been trying to get me to get rid of it for a long time. Now is the time.  I am too old and to brittle to be falling off of ladders so I need something sturdy.

Must be off now.  Too many things to get done today.  Hopefully, cleaning is in there somewhere.  My next stop is to look at flooring for the kitchen, dining room, and living room.  Not ready to buy yet but I hope to leave with an idea of what I want so I can plan.

Later.....

Happy Columbus day

It is 8:30 on Monday.  It is Columbus day and a government holiday.  I get the day off but do not get paid.  That is how it works in the contracting game.  This is the time of year that it starts.  The last half is heavy in holidays.  The government workers love it because it is another day off and they get paid.

Since it is a no pay day it is my policy to do only fun things so I am have a little breakfast and then I am going to get out of the house.  I am meeting a friend for lunch then maybe a little shopping later.

It has started raining, finally, so it will be a true fall day.  I love this time of year when it is cool enough to have the AC off but no heat is required.  This is the best next to Spring when everything is coming back to life after the winter.  The color of the leaves is beautiful this year even after all the hot dry weather we had this summer.

That is it for now...I am ready for my day.

Let's get this thing on the road.

I am a returning blogger.  I had gotten bored with my life and did not think anyone would be interested in it either so I shelved my old blog and now I have decided to begin anew.

In roughly two and a half months I will be 60.  Wow, I remember with I thought that was so old and could not imagine that I would ever reach that ripe old age.  If I did I fully expected that I would be near death.  Well guess what?  Now that I am almost there I am no where near death but ready for fun, new experience and adventure.

I work in an industry that affords opportunities to travel for short or long assignments as desired.  In some cases it is possible to work remotely.  I am doing some research to discover these types of opportunities.

After all these years I own my home and do not have to worry about a mortgage.  It is a very freeing feeling especially with all that is occurring in the housing these days with all the wacko mortgages and foreclosure.

One dream I am working on is semi-retiring, buying a small motor home and a Harley Tri Glide and traveling to where I would like to work.  I am thinking I can work in the South during the winter and North in the summer.  I work as a contractor so I can do a 30, 60, or 90 day to make money for fun.

I also want to take advantage of elder hostel programs.  There are so many to choose from in the US and abroad.  For as long as I am healthy I want to enjoy every minute and not be afraid to try new things.

My parents were retired 30 years ago and they did not extraordinary with their time.  Not much travel, trying new things, or getting to know their grandchildren.  That was OK for them because it was their retirement and their choice.  I know that this is not for me.

If anyone has fun and exciting adventures to suggest please feel free.  If it peeks my interested I might add it to my list.
